About the Company/Opportunity: Vaco is partnering with a fast-growing, private equity-backed life sciences company to hire an Accounting Manager. Recognized for its cutting-edge work in biotech research and services, this company is entering a critical growth phase and needs a strategic, hands-on accounting leader to help scale its financial operations.
 
Location: Sorrento Valley, San Diego, CA (Fully Onsite)
 
Job Title:  Accounting Manager
 
Compensation : $110,000 - $140,000 base
 
Job Overview:  In this role, you'll work closely with senior leadership and be a key contributor to the finance team. You'll join a small, collaborative environment where your contributions will directly influence the company's ability to scale. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced settings, enjoys rolling up their sleeves, and is ready to take on ownership of core accounting functions.
 
Responsibilities:   

• Lead the month-end close process and ensure financials are GAAP-compliant.
• Manage daily accounting operations including AP, AR, and Payroll.
• Supervise and mentor a staff accountant.
• Handle complex accounting areas including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, and lease accounting.
• Prepare annual financial statements and technical memos.
• Interface with auditors, investors, and other external stakeholders.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements.

 
Qualifications:

• 4+ years of accounting experience with a strong foundation in public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm strongly preferred)
• Industry experience in Life Sciences
• CPA license (active or in-progress)

• Familiarity with NetSuite or similar ERP systems
• Management Experience
