The Community You Will Join: The Wishlist team is part of Airbnb’s Search and Personalization organization, focused on helping guests discover and plan their perfect trip. As a senior backend engineer, you’ll collaborate with product, design, and data partners to evolve one of Airbnb’s most beloved features. Wishlist supports everything from saving and organizing stays to coordinating with friends and family through voting and notes. It plays a central role in how guests plan together and make booking decisions. As we reimagine this experience, you’ll help build the next generation of systems that make trip planning more collaborative, personalized, and deeply integrated across the Airbnb platform. A Typical Day: Architect and implement complex features, focusing on data-driven decision making and performance optimizations. Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy. Contribute to the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch. You’ll be reviewing code and design docs, giving feedback on product specs and mocks. Continuously learn and improve your technical and non-technical abilities. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning. 5+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast paced tech environment. Considerable experience working in Java and/or Kotlin. Fluency in frontend web technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, React and GraphQL etc) You are passionate about efficiency, availability, technical quality and system quality. Ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and drive them to resolution. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work well within engineering organization and cross functions. Ability to drive alignment, manage projects and effectively collaborate with stakeholders. How We'll Take Care of You: Our job titles may span more than one career level.
