STUDENT SUCCESS COACH
Position Summary:
The Student Success Coach is responsible for supporting Covenant College's Center for Student Success through discipleship, academic success coaching, and campus-wide educational programming. The SSC will meet 1:1 with students to support them through their college experience with special attention to those struggling with academics and adjusting to college. The SSC will focus on working with retention and academic success efforts, encouraging a campus environment that challenges students to develop holistically. The right candidate will serve as a model, advisor, and facilitator of student development.
DUTIES:
- Meet on a regular basis with students identified with potential retention concerns, as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Success, which includes students on Academic Probation, students with Provisionally/Limited Load Accepted status, and students identified by professors.
- Coach students in the areas of time management, effective study strategies, effective communication, and general academic organizational skills
- Create and implement Academic Recovery Plans to assist students who are struggling academically due to extenuating or personal circumstances
- Assist with providing Individualized Academic plans and support for students receiving academic accommodations
- Assist with College Life and ongoing academic success programming
- Assist the Associate Dean of Student Success with Disability Accommodation Processes as needed
- Oversee the daily operation of the Testing Center and work study team
- Assist with the development and presentation of workshops for students on reading strategies, study skills, test taking, time management, note taking and other fundamental academic skills
- Participate in research activities that will identify underprepared students and will focus college efforts to improve persistence and timely graduation
- Establish and maintain relationships with students, staff, and faculty through attendance at campus events, informal interaction and organized programs and workshops
- Network with other offices to establish a high level of visibility on campus and to cultivate a climate conducive to the needs of academically at-risk students
- Perform exit interviews with students who have indicated that they do not intend to return to Covenant College the following semester and assist with re-recruiting students who have left the college
- Perform other duties as assigned
ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student Success in the vision, direction and implementation of the Center for Student Success
- Apprise the Student Development team about the progress and needs of students
- Participate in professional meetings and conferences as budget and schedule allow
- Serve as requested in Student Development meetings, College meetings and committees
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred in education, educational psychology, psychology or related field
- A concern for young adults and ability to communicate with them effectively
- Administrative and leadership skills, high organizational skills, as well as be an energetic and tenacious person with the ability to motivate students and creatively solve problems
- An understanding of and commitment to Scripture, the Westminster Standards, the doctrinal standards of the PCA and the mission of Covenant College as a Christian liberal arts college
- An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduate degree or working towards a graduate degree within a related field
- Training and experience working with learning differences and disabilities
- Preferred experience in Student Development or related field in Higher Ed
