Position Title Student Success Coach (SUO) Department Stevenson University Online: Admissions Position Summary The Stevenson University Online (SUO) Student Success Coach (SSC) is responsible for providing effective, regular, responsive, and proactive academic and holistic support for online students to support their retention, success, and graduation. The SSC is assigned a portfolio of academic programs and advises SUO students in these programs on course selection and academic planning, majors and careers, academic progress, and general University policies and procedures. Meeting performance metrics, cross-training to provide general academic support for all programs, and contributing to the development and implementation of value-added resources, activities, and programming for SUO students that promote their connection to the university and support their engagement, success, and retention are expected. The SSC interfaces with students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies in SUO advising, retention, and recruiting efforts as requested. The SSC tracks and collects relevant data and compiles regular and ad hoc reports as assigned. This position is campus-based and housed on the university's Greenspring campus. The SSC is a member of the SUO team and supports overall operations, events, and initiatives as assigned. Education/Experience Master's degree in education, counseling, student personnel/development, or a related field plus 3 years of experience in an educational setting performing student advising required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supporting online students in the college environment preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Ability Demonstrated success in problem-solving, critical thinking, effective multitasking, trouble shooting, decision-making, counseling, conflict mediation, and meeting deadlines. Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based approaches to student academic advisement, development, retention issues, trends, and programs. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion, and to maintain confidentiality and integrity with handling sensitive and confidential information. Knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records and ability to operate in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Excellent interpersonal, cultural competency, and networking skills, commitment to modeling inclusive behavior and promoting a culture of belonging, and demonstrated ability to communicate and work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, student records systems, early alert monitoring systems, social media and web communications, and database systems. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and to provide excellent customer service to students, parents, and all members of the campus community. Willingness to learn. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment, to perform effectively with fluctuating workload, and to meet established deadlines. Requires the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time and additional hours for meetings/events, including evening and weekends. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Essential Functions Provide effective, regular, responsive, and proactive academic advising to assigned portfolio of new, continuing, re-admitted, and re-instated SUO students (advisees) to ensure their retention, success, and timely progress towards graduation. Monitor the progress of advisees and take appropriate action with regard to matters including, but not limited to, attendance verification, early alerts, grades, readmission, registration, SAP appeals, and progression toward completion/graduation. Assist advisees with learning and understanding the academic requirements needed for successful degree completion and assist them with developing their long-term academic plans in Student Planning. Assist advisees with learning how to register for courses and support their efforts as needed. Connect advisees to university resources and act as a liaison to all relevant internal and external resources and constituencies. Cross-train to provide general academic support for all SUO programs and serve as a backup to SUO SSCs as requested. Support the planning and delivery of SUO new student orientation. Establish effective partnerships and work collaboratively with SUO and University colleagues to support SUO student success and retention initiatives. Assist with developing and delivering activities and programming designed to meet the unique academic, career, and other needs of online SUO students. Maintain confidential records, collect data, and prepare reports as directed. Participate in University and SUO events related to recruiting, alumni relations, and orientation as requested. Support SUO operations, events, and initiatives as assigned. Identify general SUO student success needs and share them with the Director as possible topics for workshops, seminars, and other programming. Monitor enrollment, progression, and retention trends in assigned SUO programs, and report findings to Director. Maintain relationships with cohort partners as assigned to ensure needs and goals are being met. Collaborate with the Assistant Director, SUO Communications to maintain a communication schedule and identify timely and relevant student communications. Engage with the relevant academic program administrators and deans as requested to support planning course schedules and tracking course enrollment. Track advisees taking courses off-campus to support their future SUO course scheduling and progression plans. Serve as resource for faculty, academic program administrators, deans,, cohort representatives, and others regarding student issues and proactively identify and work collaboratively to resolve problems. Support the Registrar's Office with identifying SUO students eligible for graduation. Meet or exceed performance goals and expectations. Attend all School and University convocations and meetings. Maintain integrity when handling sensitive and confidential information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Demonstrate professionalism when working with students and colleagues, effective multi-tasking and prioritization, adherence to deadlines, and flexibility.
